Texas Tech Footballs Vinny Sciury Requests Medical Hardship Waiver Joey Mcguire Says

Texas Tech football's Vinny Sciury requests medical hardship waiver, Joey McGuire says

Surgery sidelines Sciury for 2023 season

Texas Tech football wide receiver Vinny Sciury will miss the 2023 season after undergoing offseason knee surgery, according to head coach Joey McGuire. Sciury requested and received a medical hardship waiver from the NCAA, which will allow him to maintain his redshirt status and have two years of eligibility remaining after the 2023 season.

Sciury, a redshirt sophomore from Clearwater, Florida, played in 11 games for the Red Raiders in 2022, catching eight passes for 72 yards and one touchdown. McGuire said Sciury was expected to be a key contributor to the offense this season, but the injury has sidelined him for the year.

Sciury expected to make full recovery

McGuire said Sciury is expected to make a full recovery from surgery and be ready to return to the field in 2024. “Vinny is a tough kid, and he's worked hard to get back on the field,” McGuire said. “We're going to miss him this season, but we're looking forward to having him back next year.”

The Red Raiders open the 2023 season on Sept. 2 against the Murray State Racers at Jones AT&T Stadium.
