Jasper Fire Department Responds to Wildfire Near Transfer Station
Crews Battle Blaze, Parkways Closed
The Jasper Fire Department, led by Fire Chief Mathew Conte and Deputy Fire Chief Don Smith, is currently responding to a wildfire near the transfer station located approximately five kilometers south of Jasper, Alberta. The fire, which started on Wednesday, has forced the closure of the north-south Icefields Parkway, leaving only one route open west to British Columbia.
Parks Canada fire crews and the Jasper Volunteer Fire Brigade are assisting in firefighting efforts. The brigade, which has over 1,600 likes on Facebook, provides firefighting and emergency services to the Jasper area.
Due to the fire, British Columbians are offering space in their homes and businesses to help evacuees travelling to Calgary or Grande Prairie.
